my faith is like shifting sand..

so i stand on Your grace...

Shifting Sand
Caedman's Call

Sometimes I believe all the lies
So I can do the things I should despise
And every day I am swayed
By whatever is on my mind

I hear it all depends on my faith
So I'm feeling precarious
The only problem I have with these mysteries
Is they're so mysterious

And like a consumer I've been thinking
If I could just get a bit more
More than my 15 minutes of faith,
Then I'd be secure

My faith is like shifting sand
Changed by every wave
My faith is like shifting sand
So I stand on grace

I've begged you for some proof
For my Thomas eyes to see
A slithering staff, a leprous hand
And lions resting lazily

A glimpse of your back-side glory
And this soaked altar going ablaze
But you know I've seen so much
I explained it away

My faith is like shifting sand
Changed by every wave
My faith is like shifting sand
So I stand on grace

Waters rose as my doubts reigned
My sand-castle faith, it slipped away
Found myself standing on your grace
It'd been there all the time

Even when I think I've mastered trusting in the faithfulness of God, I look back and see how many times my faith has washed away in even the smallest disturbance. I must consistently remind myself "My faith waxes and wanes, but His grace never changes. His faithfulness always remains." My ability to have faith in His unclear plans does not dictate His faithfulness— His faithfulness is not an option, it is a truth. When I pray, "God, be faithful to...." I am not praying, asking God to choose to be faithful in stead of changing Himself—when I pray "God, be faithful to..." I'm really praying "God, open my eyes to see your faithfulness, because it probably won't look like what I expect it to." It's good that His grace even covers my imperfect prayers. It's good that God uses to chooses to prove His faithfulness in ways I have yet to imagine... Most of the time it's in ways I wouldn't even dare to imagine.

Overwhelming, overwhelming grace....

faithfulness.

there are things i've always struggled with.
trust and patience. i thought i would never learn to wait on God to do something and trust that He will actually do it.

today, i was given a chance to practice trust as a reward for learning to wait. and i'm so excited to see where it goes.

did i ever tell -you- you're awesome? cuz you are.

mind blown.

(clarification pending pictures. they say more than words do)

He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.

clay jars

i cleaned my room today and found half of the Jars of Clay "Furthermore" album, the live portion. this song was on here... i remember how much i loved it like 6 years ago (probably the last time i heard this song)... it's a good one.

eleventh hour:

trace the shape of my heart
'til it becomes more familiar to your eyes
i've been lost without you
cold without your love
it's taken days and nights to make me realize

rescue me from hangin' on this line
i won't give up on giving you
the chance to blow my mind
let the eleventh hour quickly pass me by
i'll find you when i think i'm out of time

take the place of my heart
'til i become a stranger to my life
i've been down without you
wrong without your love
in time will i be what you're thinking of?

rescue me from hangin' on this line
i won't give up on giving you
the chance to blow my mind
let the eleventh hour quickly pass me by
i'll find you when i think i'm out of time

i've been down without you
cold without your love
in time will i be what you're thinking of?

"i've been down without you, wrong without your love..." i am always wrong without Your love.

truth from wr. webster and david

impatient: adj. "restless in desire or expectation; eagerly desirous."
patient: adj. "bearing provocation, annoyance, misfortune, delay, hardship, pain, etc., with fortitude and calm and without complaint, anger, or the like."
fortiutde: adj. "mental and emotional strength in facing difficulty, adversity, danger, or temptation courageously."

Psalm 27:14 "Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD."

this is not the first time I've posted this verse on here, nor will it be the last.

we're always waiting for something. in his message on sunday, chad told us all to write down "suffer well." that is true, we should all want to suffer well. but more generally, we should all want to wait well. wait for what? what to "see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living." or to wait for something more trivial.
or to wait to be able to see all the things you're waiting for as actually more trivial than waiting to see your savior... ponder that for a little while. you'll feel about this big. or smaller. but you'll definitely feel foolish.
feeling foolish before God is okay, because that means we are seeing ourselves for who we are—foolish and finite creatures in front of a God of infinite wisdom. have faith in that. feel comfort in that. because He does not see our feeble, foolish, and finite forms. He sees perfection, righteousness, and objects of infinite love because of Jesus.

i read psalm 27 when i know i need to be reminded of 1) God's grace, 2) God's faithfulness, and 3) God's promises. i read psalm 27 often.

run to win

1 Corinthians 9:24-25
24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25 Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.

Psalm 81

13"Oh that My people would listen to Me,
That Israel would walk in My ways!
14"I would quickly subdue their enemies
And turn My hand against their adversaries.

15"Those who hate the LORD would pretend obedience to Him,
And their time of punishment would be forever.
16"But I would feed you with the finest of the wheat,
And with honey from the rock I would satisfy you."

"Lord, thank you for Your heart to bless! All you require is my trust and obedience. Your endless blessing for my simple obedience—there's no comparison!"
